Abstract

Concrete moment frames, due to their advantages such as good ductility and architectural considerations, are of the most common building systems. When a concrete moment frame is exposed to an earthquake, the beam-to-column joints are subjected to major actions that can eventually lead to serious failure and deterioration of the structures. By doing a laboratory and numerical study,in the current paper, the reinforcement of scaled moment frames by fibers was inspected. To offer good seismic performance, structural elements such as beam-column joints must have improved deformation capacity as well as failure tolerance. To prevent and reduce damage, especially in beam-to-column connections, fibers can be used in the mixing design of concrete moment frames. Regarding the results of this paper, the fibers will increase the energy absorption and move the plastic joint away from the critical area in the concrete moment frame. In this paper, in moment frames made with fiber concrete, two types of fibers called polypropylene fibers and polyolefin fibers have been used.
